International Expedition to Huantsan, 2018

‘We first busied ourselves in doing a recce of the south ridge. The south ridge could only be gained after establishing camp 1 and climbing the col between huantsan s south ridge and a peak called Rurec. We found the south ridge extremely dangerous. The photos will speak for themselves.’

So much hype, publicity, equipment, people, money….and they didn’t even get to the real camp 1 at 5,700m! This is not the way you climb a mountain like Huantsan. In June 2017 I made it to the West summit (6,250m) of Huantsan, the same one Casimiro Ferrari and team made in 1972. Seeing that we went that way last year, It seems this large expedition wanted to follow this route and finish the main summit. After being stopped low on the south ridge, as a consolation they went to the north ridge and made the north summit (6,100m), but this is not even close to the main summit. Shortly after this expedition, my team went in at the end of July and reached the west and main summits (6,395m) on July 31st, 2018. Finally finishing what several teams had attempted since 1972. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1826864604065458&set=pob.100002258088066&type=3&theater
